The fourth issue of Peimot serves as a platform for nine scholars to examine some of the major milestones in the development of opera in Israel. Until now, there has been no extensive research carried out on the subject, perhaps because the genre’s poetic power has been enjoyed by relatively few people. Perhaps opera has not been deemed an innovative genre that cultivates and integrates various languages of expression, but instead has been seen as primarily a manifestation of nostalgia for a world that symbolizes bourgeois sensibility.
